Monster landed on Seven Mile Beach
Hollywood actor, Chris Hemsworth and Spanish wife Elsa Pataky, are spending close to $9M on their massive beach house. The property is on Seven Mile Beach just south of Broken Head. Some locals are concerned about the size of the project, which resembles a suburban shopping mall. It is expected to feature a gym, steam room, an infinity pool and spa with ocean views, a media room, a games room, vast outdoor living and play areas, and six bedrooms. The master bedroom is the size of a normal small house.
It’s a shame the original local architect on the job, Dominic Finlay Jones, did not continue with the build. The job was taken over by a Sydney firm and it does look more than slightly out of place.
Rumours persist that Hemsworth’s good friend, actor Matt Damon, has purchased next door – but that has not been confirmed.
23 Marine Parade, Wategos Beach
Heir to the Swisse Vitamins brand has purchased in Wategos. Stephen Ring, recently cashed up after selling Swisse to a Chinese consortium, paid $7.55M for the 2 bedroom cottage on 800 M2 beachfront land. There were $10M hopes for the sale, which comes with luxury 6 bedroom house plans by Harley Graham, another local award-winning architect. The sale was managed by Vicky Innis of Byron Property Sales.
371 Friday Hut Road, Possum Creek
Friday Hut Estate, pictured above, is on the market with Gary Brazenor of Bangalow Real Estate. The luxury 8 bedroom home was built and designed by local builder Tim Sharpe and partner Rani Blancpain in 2005. The luxury estate on four acres currently belongs to the family of Cricket Australia board member Michelle Tredenick. The creative design and build, featured til-up concrete walls ussually only used in commercial developments.
2 Jones Lane, Middle Pocket
The original Doctor Jones home in Middle Pocket is a stately affair. “Vermont” is on 30 acres with 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, swimming pool and extensive fruit trees and garden. Its 15 minutes from Brunswick Head and beaches. Listed with Elders Brunswick Heads for over $2.1M.
174 Dingo Lane, Myocum
This is 108 acres with lots of potential. The original three bedroom farmhouse and large undercover equestrian centre is just the start. The land is nicely positioned with lots of north aspects and gently undulating farmland. Listed with Glen Irwin of LJ Hookers and asking $2.5-2.7M
14 Boormans Road, Newrybar
How hot can Newrybar get? The people at Harvest seem to be going from strength to strength. It’s getting hard to park in the street it’s so popular. They have also spun off a number of terrific eateries around town. Someone with some energy and vision can get in on the action with this purchase. This attractive ten acres comes with a simple but pleasant two bedroom home, but has DA approval for 5-holiday cabins. It gets a bit easier when it’s just over the shire border in Ballina Shire. Listed with Scott Vincent at Harcourts and will be auctioned on 10th of November with low $2M expected.
1 Bundaleer Road, Broken Head
I sometimes get clients wanting an approved retreat and there is nothing for sale. Then I find something for sale and I have no clients. This property is recently back on the market. It is 15 acres, main residence, four private bungalows, manager’s quarters and has approval for another five bungalows. All hard to get in Byron Shire – again this is just over the border in Ballina Shire. Only downside is it does have a bit of road noise from Broken Head Road. Byron Property Sales for $2.95M.
Lot 5, Mevlana, 42 Bilin Road, Myocum
Mevlana is a relatively successful MO or rural land sharing community. At 400 acres it is the largest private title in Byron Shire and runs from the Gulgan Road Highway access all the way through almost to McAuleys Lane. Lot 5 is one of 25 shares and it is a large luxury home, four bedrooms, pool and a self-contained studio. Listed with Ku Darroch of Real Estate of Distinction and asking $1.8-2M.
Habitat, Bayshore Drive, Sunrise Beach
Stage two of the Habitat Live/Work one bedroom units are about to be released. This complex is proving to be popular, and this dozen new two-story units, with dwelling upstairs and home office area downstairs, seem to hit a chord with buyers. Designed by local architect Dominic Finlay Jones and developed by North Byron Parklands part owner, Brandon Saul, it is a fully integrated facility with restaurants, shops, and broadband. New units will sell for $795-$830,000 and I am happy to show people thru.
Sydney Symbolic Sale
The tech billionaire Mike Cannon-Brookes and his wife Annie Todd have bought Australia’s most expensive house, the harbourfront jewel, Fairwater at Double Bay, Sydney. Cannon-Brookes is the co-founder of tech start-up, Atlassian. The sale, possibly for close to $100 million, and likely to be in cash, ends more than a century of Fairfax family ownership on Seven Shillings Beach. It took just three weeks for the 1.12 hectare estate to sell.
The sale is symbolic as it represents old money passing the baton to new money. Lady (Mary) Fairfax died last September and was the matriarch of the Fairfax dynasty – soon to be a brand of the past after the sale to Channel 9. Cannon-Brookes also came to national attention after brokering the energy battery deal in South Australia with Elon Musk by a tweet.
