Lights Camera Action!
Byron Bay is about be used as a backdrop as a film set. Local production company Every Cloud Productions is about to shoot Deadlock starting in July. Every Cloud principals are Deb Cox and Fionna Eagger, the creatives behind Sea Change, Miss Fisher Murder Mysteries and the also locally shot East of Everything.
Deadlock tells the story of what its like to be a teenager in paradise and what happens when a mysterious car crash exposes the gritty reality. The production is an on-line release and supported by the ABC, Screen Australia and Film Victoria. Northern Rivers Screenworks is also behind the project and is making available a number of paid attachment positions (work experience for local young people wanting an opportunity in the film industry). Screenworks is looking for philanthropic support to make these attachments possible. They are trying to raise $45,000. Please look for the NR Screenworks website and support this to help maintain a strong creative industry culture in Byron Shire. Anyone donating between $1000 – $5000 will be invited on set for a meet and greet with the cast and crew.
NR Screenworks is joining with Screen NSW to promote the Northern Rivers as a “go-to” location for domestic and overseas film shoots. The unique and interesting landscape, infrastructure and large number of screen professionals make it a winner according to top international location manager, Colin McDowell, who has been in Byron assisting in locations for Deadlock. Apparently our region can double well for South East Asia without the hassle. Screen NSW has developed an app for anyone wanting to promote their home or location online. Download “Reelscout” app and upload some quality pictures of what you have to offer.
