Residents in the north of the shire have legitimately complained for years that they get little attention from the Council. That may finally change with the release of the New Brighton, Ocean Shores, and South Golden Beach Place Plan. Residents will now have until June to give community feedback. The Place Plan will propose a 20-year vision for each village and suggest projects on various themes.
One of the themes in the Place Plan is to deliver a main street or central plaza area so OS can have somewhere for people to gather and meet. The only feasible option is to do something with the shopping centre. It will be interesting to see what that would look like.
The other unexpected decision was to include the Marshalls Creek Boardwalk as something to be investigated. Currently, residents in South Ocean Shores have to drive or trek without a footpath up the Raja Road hill to get to the beach and New Brighton. One of the above boardwalk options would make walking or biking in the area safer, easier and more scenic. The Council voted to assess the options.
Ocean Shores has been criticized for many years. I was one of them until I lived there and realised what a great place it is. It used to have the derogatory name of Open Sores – but no longer. We also used to call Pacific Vista – Specific Blister, and Suffolk Park – Suffering Park. What clever little smart arses we were. But no longer – welcome to the Shire, Ocean Shores, and much love to you!
Boardwalk to save the climb up the hill is a great initiative. No impact on the environment and plenty of boardwalks in Tweed and Ballina Shires. Let’s get with it
Yes Ray I agree and I hope it gets up. The issue seems to be that National Parks are saying they will not consider a boardwalk on this land under any circumstances. Also the Greens on council are a bit hesitant to see the removal of any vegetation for the baordwalk. But if the momentum is there from the community then I think that we can push it through.
